Accion Opportunity Fund received a $10 million RLUSD grant from Ripple to expand lending to small businesses shut out of traditional credit. The capital is expected to draw in another $50 million from impact investors and generate roughly $156 million in total loans over the next decade through repeated recycling of repaid funds.
Researchers project this activity could add $900 million to U.S. GDP across ten years. The estimate draws on a decade of the fund’s track record with nearly 20,000 borrowers and $960 million already deployed. Past cycles of the same model preserved over 60,000 jobs and created more than 10,000 new ones.
The remaining $5 million of Ripple’s $15 million RLUSD commitment will fund financial-literacy programs and a digital accelerator for entrepreneurs. Findings from the study will be discussed publicly on October 30.
