A crypto user has raised new alarms about Ledger hardware wallets after finding unauthorized components inside two devices bought from separate European retailers. Both units contained extra cables and what looked like an LTE communication module, suggesting prior tampering.
The buyer filmed the unboxing of the second wallet and sent the first one to Mark Karpeles, former Mt. Gox chief, for independent analysis. Store staff told him returned devices go straight back to the manufacturer, ruling out simple resale of used units.
The retail chain operates over a thousand outlets across eleven European countries. Ledger has urged customers who purchased from third-party sellers to inspect their devices closely, while no wider confirmation of affected stock has emerged yet.
Karpeles had previously flagged similar hidden modules that could bypass official authenticity checks. The episode points to a possible large-scale supply-chain compromise rather than isolated incidents.
