Sui Foundation is putting $30 million into DATA Network, a project that tracks the origins and usage rights of datasets for AI training. Under the deal, DATA Network will shut down its standalone blockchain and operate instead as a native protocol on Sui.
Existing $DATA tokens will migrate one-for-one to the new Sui-based network. The original chain stays live until the move is complete, with a detailed transition timeline promised before the switch begins.
The investment makes Sui Foundation one of the project’s largest institutional token holders alongside PIP Labs and the DATA Foundation. Decentralized storage platform Walrus will serve as the core data layer for applications built by DATA Network.
Since its June pivot to AI data rights, the Trace system has logged over 250 million contributions and handles more than three million records daily. The partnership aims to supply AI developers with verifiable, rights-cleared real-world datasets.
