Analyst João Wedson flagged a clear shift: big Ethereum holders have been cutting long positions and moving into shorts. The 30-day and 180-day open interest delta has turned negative, and the gap between whales and retail traders shows the same trend.
Despite this repositioning, total open interest stays elevated at roughly 10.58 million ETH. Much of that exposure still carries leverage, leaving the market exposed to sharp price swings.
Wedson warns that if prices move quickly, the remaining leveraged longs could trigger a wave of forced liquidations, amplifying volatility across the futures market.
