Federal prosecutors have accused two Robinhood engineers of cashing in on non-public listing plans. Hefu Chai and Huaisun Xiang allegedly used their access to upcoming crypto additions on Robinhood Crypto to place bets on the decentralized platform Hyperliquid.
Between 2025 and 2026 the pair opened perpetual futures positions ahead of public announcements. Once Robinhood revealed the new tokens, price moves reportedly delivered each of them more than $50,000 in gains.
The Southern District of New York charges them with commodities and wire fraud, warning that insider trading rules apply even when the trades happen on decentralized derivatives venues.
