Five years of daily, weekly and monthly data reveal virtually no statistical link between Bitcoin and oil prices. Both Brent and WTI moved independently of BTC across all timeframes examined.
Even amid 2026 volatility triggered by tensions around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, the pattern held. Bitcoin rose roughly 25 % from February to May while oil stayed elevated; from May through June both fell about 30 %, yet their day-to-day moves showed no alignment.
Since the June lows Bitcoin has gained 44 % and WTI more than 30 %. Across the six largest oil spikes of the past five years, Bitcoin rose three times and fell three times. Binance Research reached the same conclusion: any measurable correlation was limited to the 2020–2022 liquidity surge and has since vanished.
Oil prices can theoretically affect inflation expectations and therefore central-bank policy, yet the effect on Bitcoin remains too faint and inconsistent to register in price data. ETF flows, corporate treasury decisions and long-term holder behavior continue to dominate BTC moves.
