On October 5 an atomic transaction sent 0.001 ETH from Ethereum mainnet straight into an L2 rollup inside the EEZ project. The same irreversible action also updated the rollup state. The transfer landed in block 26,127,444 at 16:44 UTC and cost roughly 0.80 dollars in fees.
The move was only a proof-of-concept. EEZ has not shipped a product yet, and full two-way calls plus real-time proofs remain scheduled for 2027. Still, the test showed that the L1 transfer and L2 update either both succeed or both roll back.
EEZ lead engineer Eduardo Antuña Díez posted the details on X, calling it the first atomic L1-to-L2 transaction and noting it is only the start. The effort is run by Gnosis and Zisk with backing from the Ethereum Foundation and aims to pool liquidity across rollups without bridges.
Before the test the team completed an audit, tried live blobs, and checked compatibility with CoW Swap and Uniswap v4. Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst has said that without this kind of synchronous composability every protocol would need separate deployments on each L2.
