Ethereum Draft Lets RWA Issuers Move Encrypted Tokens by Force

OpenZeppelin engineer Arye Greenberg, known as arr00, filed a pull request on Friday for ERC-8424. The proposal introduces forced-transfer mechanics for tokenized real-world assets while keeping balances encrypted under the existing ERC-7984 framework.

Issuers would gain two public compliance checks plus a special transaction type that only authorized parties can trigger. The rules must still respect lock-ups, vesting schedules and frozen supply, yet the draft leaves the exact implementation open.

Forum user zexoverz quickly pointed out a privacy hole: the balance-check functions can be called by anyone, letting outsiders probe encrypted 64-bit amounts with as few as 64 calls via binary search.

The move revives an old debate—how to reconcile regulatory control with on-chain privacy—already addressed in public-balance standards ERC-3643 and ERC-7943.
