Ripple Chief Faults Democrats After Senate Blocks Crypto Bill

16.09.2026 · Cryptonews

The CLARITY Act fell short of the 60 votes required in the US Senate. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse called the outcome a setback for American users and the country’s bid to lead in digital assets.

He stressed the bill was never about one firm. It aimed to give the whole sector clearer rules and help the US stay ahead in the next phase of finance. Garlinghouse singled out Democratic opposition as the main obstacle.

Still, he sees a path forward. With Paul Atkins now leading the SEC and Michael Selig at the CFTC, regulators are expected to fill the gap with new guidelines. Ripple plans to stay active in those talks.

The company itself remains on solid ground. Strong demand from banks and digital-asset platforms continues, and Garlinghouse said the Senate vote will not slow its global work.
